Five-year operating grant announced for arXiv

The popular open access repository for scientific papers, arXiv, run out of the library of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, has been put on a more sustainable financial footing after receiving an operating grant from the non-profit Simons Foundation.

The library announced on 28 August that arXiv, which allows scientists to share “preprint” research before publication, will receive up to $300,000 per year from the foundation, matched to funds generated through arXiv’s membership fees.
