Higher education employment sees slight rise

About 1.9 million people were involved in university teaching or research in 2011, including graduate assistants, according to data released by the National Centre for Education Statistics on 7 August.

The figures reveal that overall, including administration-related jobs, about 3.9 million people were employed in the higher education sector—a rise of about 300,000 from the previous year. Of the total, about 2.5 million were employed full-time and about 1.4 million part-time.
