Universities increase spending on joint research

Funds spent on research collaborations by institutions has more than doubled in the past decade, according to a report released by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The 3 August report, ‘Collaboration in Academic R&D: A Decade of Growth in Pass-Through Funding’ by the National Centre for Science and Engineering Statistics, is based on data from the NSF’s annual survey of R&D expenditures at universities and colleges. It looked at the amount of R&D spending that universities pass to other academic institutions and entities for collaborative projects.
