Gift endows six chairs at Virginia university

A $16-million donation has created positions for clinical and translational researchers and will help support doctoral students at Virginia Commonwealth University.

The gift from Kenneth Wright, a local businessman who has been a frequent supporter of the university, will endow six professorships for cardiac and cancer researchers. After five years, the university can shift the chairs to other health-science fields. The university said it would begin recruiting for the positions soon.

Part of the gift—$4m—will be used to help pay tuition fees and stipends for MD-PhD students.
