$210m for population health

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has donated $210 million to the University of Washington’s population health program.

The donation will pay for a building in which several departments, including the department of global health and the institute for health metrics and evaluation, will be housed. The building is scheduled to open in 2020.

Ana Mari Cauce, the university’s president, announced the public health initiative in May, saying it would be one of the institution’s major focal points for the next 25 years. The multidisciplinary program will involve professors from the university’s schools of engineering, business and social work.
