Iowa expands neuroscience

A $45-million gift will enable the University of Iowa to set up a multi-disciplinary neuroscience institute and fund a number of researchers.

The donation will pay for new laboratory facilities at the university and support five endowed faculty chairs, four professors and ten junior investigators. It also includes grants for institute researchers.

In August, the university announced that University of Pennsylvania brain researcher Ted Abel would join its faculty in January: he will lead the institute.
