October was National Arts and Humanities Month, it turns out

President Obama had proclaimed October 2011 as “National Arts & Humanities Month,” but the distinction largely flew under the radar screen until the National Humanities Alliance (NHA) announced it on 31 October.

During an official proclamation last month, the President said millions of Americans earned a living in the arts and humanities, and the non-profit and for-profit arts industries were important parts of the nation’s cultural heritage and economy.
