Increase in agricultural research investment urged

The US should increase its investment in agricultural research by $700 million per year and expand the role of competition in agricultural research funding, according to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

In a 7 December report, PCAST recommended expanding the use of competition in allocating research funding within the US Department of Agriculture’s intramural and extramural programmes in this area.
