Steve Bannon was on the losing end of a lawsuit after his tenure as director of the struggling Biosphere 2 facility.
Bannon is now known for helping to manage Donald Trump’s successful presidential campaign, and he will stay on in the new administration as Trump’s chief strategist. Bannon is also chief executive of the far-right website Breitbart News.
In the early 1990s, however, Bannon was asked to take over the troubled Biosphere 2 research project. The privately funded, $200-million facility in southern Arizona was intended to house several researchers in a closed system for years at a time. There was no Biosphere 1; as its founders considered the planet Earth to be the first biosphere.
