Donald Trump’s surprise win in the United States presidential election has many wondering what is next for science and research at federal agencies and around the country.
As a candidate, Trump said he might eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency and renege on a global climate change agreement. He also promised massive new infrastructure spending and said he valued R&D spending across all disciplines.
But with science issues barely addressed during the long presidential campaign, Trump’s record of contradictory statements, and little information about who will lead federal agencies in his administration, uncertainty is prevalent among science policy observers.
