Biden urged to splurge on research and higher education

Incoming president lobbied to boost research investment and support teaching staff and students

Groups representing scientists and university workers have urged the incoming administration of United States’ president-elect Joe Biden to make research funding a priority and provide financial support to teaching staff on “poverty-level wages”.

The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (Faseb), which represents 29 scientific societies, said the US needs to increase investment in science and innovation “in the face of growing economic competition” from other countries.
