US creating 12 research centres in push for global tech leadership

$765m government funding for AI and quantum research will link national laboratories, universities and industry

The United States government is delivering on its ambition to accelerate research on key technologies, announcing $765 million in funding for 12 new research centres on quantum information science and artificial intelligence.

Announcing the move on 26 August, US chief technology officer Michael Kratsios said the research centres will be “built upon the uniquely American free market approach to technological advancement”, and represent an “unprecedented investment to strengthen American leadership in AI and quantum”.
