Education secretary steps down, citing Trump’s role in trying to derail Biden’s election confirmation
Academic and science advocacy groups have backed a move by Democratic politicians to remove US president Donald Trump from office ahead of the end of his term, following his part in the events that led to the US Capitol being stormed by a mob earlier this month—an incident in which several people died.
“We call for the immediate removal of president Trump from office and fully support all legal efforts to remove him,” the heads of the American Association of University Professors, Irene Mulvey, Paul Davis and Christopher Sinclair, said in a joint statement on 8 January. “The misinformation and conspiracy theories that fuelled the attack on our Capitol must be met with truth, education and critical thinking,” they said, adding that cuts to public higher education were partly to blame.
