China shops for polar plane

China, which launched its first Antarctic expedition in 1984, is to buy its first plane for research use in the Antarctic, a researcher announced at a seminar in Shanghai on 25 September. Sun Bo, from the Polar Research Institute of China, said in a statement that possessing a polar aircraft was a sign of a country’s strength in the region.
