Jamaica hosts leadership workshop

The Jamaica campus of the University of the West Indies will help train Caribbean women leaders in gender justice this month.

The 10-day course runs from 11 to 22 July 2011.

Hosted by the Antigua-based non-governmental Caribbean Institute for Women in Leadership (CIWiL).

Participants are drawn from women in the public, private or non-governmental sectors as well as political parties of Belize, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia.

The course aims to develop analytical skills, judgment and leadership potential and increase understanding of the Caribbean political economy, democracy, good governance, accountability and development, according to the CIWiL website.

It stated that graduates of the course become eligible to participate in CIWiL’s mentorship programme.
