South Korea’s military budget to increase by 5.2 per cent in 2012

The South Korean government's defence ministry announced on 27 September a planned 5.2 per cent rise in its budget for next year, reports China Daily.

The 33.1 trillion won ($28bn) budget will be used to fortify five island borders deemed vulnerable to attack from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). The ministry will also purchase equipment, improve medical facilities and invest in military R&D.
