First litre of ethanol to be produced at Guyana sugar estate

Guyana’s agriculture sector is building capacity for the production of bio-fuels with the first litre of ethanol from the Albion Sugar Estate’s demonstration plant expected soon as part of the nation’s Low Carbon Development Strategy.

Agriculture Minister Leslie Ramsammy says this is in keeping with the goal of becoming a significant player in the growing alternative energy field, while at the same time meeting the country’s needs, and adding alternative energy to its portfolio of exported products.
