Arctic research station given the go-ahead

The Canadian government has committed CAD$188.5 million over the next six years for the construction and equipping of an Arctic research station and a science programme, prime minister Stephen Harper announced.

The Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS) will be built in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, and is planned to be operational by 2017.
