Nine physicists each win $3m prize-money

Nine physicists have been awarded $3 million (£1.9m) each by the Milner Foundation for “transformative advances” in the field.

The foundation was set up by investor Yuri Milner, and says its new prize is the highest-value annual prize for scientific achievement in the world. By comparison, last year’s Nobel prizes were worth around $1.2m each.
