Egyptian law professor elected chairman of Unesco

Mohamed Sameh Amr, Egypt's ambassador and permanent delegate to the UN’s science agency Unesco, has been elected chairman of the organisation’s board.

Unesco announced on 22 November that Amr had been elected to replace Alessandra Cummins of Barbados, who had held the post since 2012.

The board has 58 members, which are drawn from representatives of Unesco’s member states. It meets twice a year.
