Israel chief scientist sees potential for better UK links

Israel's science and technology ministry aims to increase the “low” level of research collaboration between Israel and the UK, according to its chief scientist.

Ehud Gazit was speaking to Research Fortnight on 27 November, during a two-day visit to the UK that involved a meeting between Yaakov Peri and David Willetts, the two countries’ science ministers.

Much of the support for the exchange of scientists between the countries comes from charities and philanthropy, and Gazit was keen to emphasise the importance of further government support from both Israel and the UK. “I can say that the ministry will be very open to funding such activity,” he said. Research Fortnight understands that increased spending on bilateral collaboration is indeed under discussion.
