Better sexual harassment reporting mechanisms needed

Scientific institutions should implemented better systems to respond to allegations of harassment, which could include an independent ombudsman, academies have said.

A advisory note from the International Council for Science’s committee on scientific conduct said that accessible, transparent and confidential reporting mechanisms are needed.

“These could be an ombudsperson, a web resource or other crisis intervention resources,” the note, published on 25 November, recommended.
