Asia dominates patent applications picture for 2018

Nearly half of the world’s patent applications were submitted in China in 2018, as the country strengthened its lead in this important innovation metric.

Attempts to protect intellectual property via patents were up 11.6 per cent year-on-year in China in 2018, according to the latest report from the World Intellectual Property Organisation, released on 16 October.
