Chinese numbers surge in ranking of most-cited researchers

US still dominates Clarivate list but China is gaining ground

Chinese researchers have continued to increase their numbers on an annual list of the world’s most highly cited researchers published by the analytics company Clarivate.

The United States still accounts for 41.5 per cent of the 6,167 total researchers on the list, having 2,650 of them. But China “continues to surge” as the number two country, with 770 researchers, or 12.1 per cent of the 2020 list, the company says.
