Academic freedom must be ensured, warns HEPI report

As politicians in the UK and China adopt increasingly confrontational stances, the countries’ researchers have been urged to strengthen their ties, while taking steps to safeguard academic freedom.

Tensions between the two nations have ratcheted up in recent weeks with arguments over the role of controversial Chinese tech firm Huawei in UK infrastructure and an offer from the UK to give citizenship to those in Hong Kong fleeing tougher Chinese control.
