Low-income countries leading on open access, study finds

Researchers say results show more open-access initiatives needed at institutional, national and international levels

Low-income countries publish and cite open-access research papers more than the rest of the world, a study has found.

Reported in the open-access journal Plos One on 9 August, the study suggests the differences in uptake of open access across the world indicate that “more open-access initiatives at the institutional, national and international levels are needed to support wider adoption of open scholarship”.
