Clelio Campolina Diniz, an economist, has been appointed science minister in Brazil.
Diniz, who takes over from Marco Antonio Raupp, was one of three ministers sworn in by President Dilma Rousseff on 17 March. He said he wanted to "continue the work being done and expand it".
Diniz, a former rector at the UFMG federal university of Minas Gerais, also said he expected to spend his first weeks in office speaking to the country’s scientists. "We will immediately talk to all agencies related to the ministry, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science," he said.
