French-Chilean biodiversity unit launched

Four French and Chilean institutions have set up a joint unit for biodiversity research.

The Evolutionary Biology and Ecology of Algae research unit has been launched by the CNRS, France’s national centre for scientific research; the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris; the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile; and the Southern University of Chile.

It is headquartered at the Roscoff biology station in north-west France but branches have also been set up at the two Chilean institutions, according to a statement published on Redbionova, a Chilean website focused on science grants and developments in Chile, on 31 March.
