Minister invites input to science strategy

Science minister Greg Rickford has called on researchers and policymakers to submit ideas to help with the development of the government’s science and technology strategy.

Rickford made the request in a speech at the Canadian Science Policy Conference in Toronto on 21 November. He did not specify how submissions should be made, but said he would be touring the country looking for ideas on how Canada should develop its science and technology sector.

The minister also defended the government’s move to turn the National Research Council from a basic science agency into one that supports innovation in business. “The NRC’s goal is to serve business,” he said. “It’s controversial, but it’s what’s needed.”
