Privacy commissioner to fund research

Canada’s privacy commissioner is offering funding for short research projects on the protection of personal information.

The commissioner’s Contributions Program provides up to $50,000 for research projects that can be completed within a single financial year—in this case April 2014 to March 2015. The projects should fall within one of the commissioner’s four priority areas: identity integrity; information technology; genetic information; and public safety.

The commissioner is looking for projects that generate novel ideas, approaches, and knowledge about privacy that organisations can use to safeguard personal information, or that individuals can use to make informed decisions about protecting their privacy.
