Canada mourns passing of honorary citizen Mandela

Canada's politicians and citizens lined up today to mourn the death of former South African president Nelson Mandela, and to pay tribute to his life.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper said “the world has lost one of its great moral leaders and statesmen”, and praised Mandela’s commitment to reconciliation and understanding following his long imprisonment by South Africa’s apartheid government.

In 2001, Mandela became only the second person to be made an honorary Canadian citizen.
