The federal government has said that it will fund the Experimental Lakes Area, the ecological research station for which funding was withdrawn by the previous government.
Fisheries minister Dominic LeBlanc announced on 10 August that Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) would provide C$1.7 million in the next two years to cover researchers’ and technicians’ salaries, maintenance, data management and equipment costs.
“We are pleased to provide federal funding to the International Institute for Sustainable Development’s Experimental Lakes Area and to support its legacy of informing important policy decisions in Canada and around the world,” said LeBlanc.
