Mitacs internships draw in students

Innovation organisation Mitacs' Globalink programme of research internships is helping to attract international students to Canada, a survey for the organisation has found.

The survey of former participants in Mitacs’ Globalink programme found that 75 per cent of them cited Globalink as the top factor that influenced their decision to come to Canada, and 77 per cent had since convinced a fellow student or friend to come to Canada for an internship.

Participants in the programme were also twice as likely to pursue further studies in Canada as international students who had not done an internship. Seventy per cent of those who stayed said they planned to apply for permanent residency.
