Science advisers disavow New Brunswick forest plan

Concerned environmental scientists have claimed that they were not consulted about New Brunswick’s forestry plan before it was announced.

Marc-André Villard, an ecologist at Université de Moncton and a member of forestry company JD Irving’s own forest research advisory committee, told the CBC that he was concerned that the plan would reduce the amount of Crown land set aside for conservation from 28 per cent to 23 per cent.

"Myself and other researchers expressed concern [about the 28 per cent threshold in 2012], so you can imagine how we feel about this new strategy that was proposed without any consultation from scientists," he said.
