Quebec invites industry to biopharma working group

The province of Quebec intends to set up a working group on the biopharmaceutical industry as part of its 2015-16 budget plans.

The group, which will include government and industry representatives, will study the “evolving context in which the industry operates”, and determine how to develop it in ways that will deliver economic benefits to the province, according to The Quebec Economic Plan, published last month.

The pharmaceutical industry welcomed the announcement. “We are delighted with the creation of a working group on the biopharmaceutical industry in Quebec and the government’s recognition of our industry’s evolving business model,” said Russell Williams, the president of Canada’s Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (Rx&D), in a statement on 27 March.
