Joy Johnson, scientific director of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s Institute of Gender and Health, is leaving the institute to become vice-president of research at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver.
“Research is central to SFU’s vision to be Canada’s leading ‘engaged university’. Johnson’s background in health promotion and behavioural change, her impressive track record in raising research funds, and her passion for research and knowledge mobilisation will ensure that SFU is well positioned for the future,” said SFU president Andrew Petter.
Johnson plans to create a new strategic vision for scientific research that will concentrate on creating strong international partnerships, with a focus on real-world applications, she said in an interview with the Vancouver Sun.
