The University of British Columbia has tapped one of its own professors to be its next president and vice-chancellor.
Arvind Gupta, a computer science professor and expert in innovation policy, is known for his extensive work with industry. He is also chief executive of Mitacs, a not-for-profit organisation that links graduate students with business and industry.
“I was delighted to hear Dr Gupta will be succeeding me,” said outgoing president Stephen Toope. “In him, UBC has found a leader with rare attributes: critical thinking, inspiring vision and the courage to chart a bold course.”
