A research team from the Goa-based National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR) is preparing for a 45-day expedition to study climate change in the Indian Ocean section of the Southern Ocean, reports Bernama, the official Malaysian news agency.
“There is major exchange of heat and salt between the Indian Ocean and the Southern Ocean. Hence, the Southern Ocean has a vital role in the climatic changes occurring in Indian Peninsula,” said N. Anilkumar, coordinator of the Southern Ocean Expedition.
