Panda count will use footprints and dung

A survey of the wild panda population in China's Sichuan province is set to be the prelude to a nationwide census of the endangered mammal.

Qiu Jian, an official from the wildlife protection department of the Sichuan provincial forestry administration, told China Daily that over 60 experts attended a two-day training programme at the Wanglang nature reserve in Pingwu county before beginning the survey on 28 June.
