Chinese metals company gives $10m to US university

An aluminium company based in China has donated $10 million to Purdue University in West Lafayette in the US, it was announced on 26 September.

The money, which has been donated by the Nanshan Group, will be used to fund scholarships, research and training over the next five years. The research opportunities will be available in the university’s School of Materials Engineering, the Krannert School of Management, and the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

“We are pleased with this partnership because of the brand-name recognition that Purdue has in China and around the world,” said Song Jianbo, chairman of Nanshan. “These collaborations and interactions also will engage our company in the local and campus communities, which we are looking forward to,” he added.
