Beijing ramps up nuclear research spend

China invested 1.75 billion yuan in nuclear research (US$277 million) in nuclear research last year through the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), an increase of 20 per cent on 2010, reports China Daily.

Sun Qin, the CNNC’s general manager, told the paper that the CNNC’s work is bearing fruit, with breakthroughs including China’s first fast reactor, advanced uranium enrichment technology and nuclear power technology.
