Mars mission gets the go-ahead

Prime minister Manmohan Singh has approved a US$81 million programme to put a spacecraft into Mars orbit, The Hindu reported on 4 August.

The launch is planned for 20 November 2013 when Mars is relatively close to Earth. According to India’s Department of Space (DoS), the spacecraft will enter Mars orbit by September 2014. Its mission is to study the atmosphere of Mars.
