A research centre dedicated to agricultural biotechnology research will be established to conduct research on genomics and genetic engineering, the Indian government announced on 23 August.
The Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology will be built at Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand state, at a cost of 2.9 billion rupees (US$52 million). The institute will undertake basic and strategic research with a view to developing crops with increased yield and stress tolerance.
