The vice-president of the China Association for Science and Technology has called on scientists in the country to ensure their professional goals are in line with China’s strategic targets.
Shen Weichen told a conference of 2,500 Cast members that China’s scientists should bear the country’s needs in mind when embarking on their own projects or starting businesses. He said workers should “proactively assume their social responsibility of serving the scientific decision-making, innovative development of enterprises and advancement of the nation’s science literacy”.
Weichen made his comments during Cast’s 15th annual conference, which was held on 30 May in Guyang, the capital of Guizhou province. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the Guizhou province’s People’s Congress.
