American car manufacturer Ford is to spend $100 million on employing more researchers, building an additional test track and adding a building at its R&D facility in China, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The journal reported on 5 March that the expansion, which will take place over four years, should enable Ford’s researchers to play a bigger role in designing the company’s vehicles.
John Lawler, chief executive of Ford Motor China, said the expansion was a top priority for the company in terms of global product development. "Growing the Research and Engineering Centre—one of eight such centres in Ford’s global system—allows our global team to better integrate local customer insight from China and from Ford’s other Asia-Pacific markets into global product development programmes," he said.
