India to launch student-exchange programmes

The human resources ministry has announced plans to twin Indian universities with higher education institutions abroad, it has been reported.

In plans revealed on 22 June, the ministry said that high-ranking institutions would be allowed to apply for permission to sign twinning agreements for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. This would allow students to travel abroad as part of their degrees, without being subject to overseas student fees.

“This will offer unprecedented academic mobility through acquiring credits and study at reputable institutions abroad,” the University World News website reported the then minister of human resources Smriti Irani as saying.
