Climate change funding promises fall short, report says

Industrialised countries have failed to provide the climate change funding promised to developing countries, says a report by the London-based International Institute for Environment and Development.

The study published on 26 November to coincide with the current round of international climate change negotiations in Doha, says that in 2009 developed countries pledged US$30 billion to developing nations for climate adaptation and mitigation activities. They have fallen US$6.3bn short and only 20 per cent of the funds have gone towards adaptation projects. Developed countries have until the end of this year to deliver the lacking funds.
