Saudi Arabia has set up a project mapping the genetic code of its citizens to identify the cause of many chronic diseases in the country, according to the Middle-Eastern news agency, the National.

The Saudi Human Genome Programme will be run by Saudi researchers at the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, the country’s national science centre, in collaboration with the US company Life Technologies Corporation, said an article published on 10 December.

The project will be carried out over five years and will sequence 100,000 human genes.
