Disadvantaged students from Palestine to get free library access

The UN's science agency Unesco has joined Saudi Arabia in a project to support Palestinian students from disadvantaged backgrounds by establishing libraries and offering them computer access.

The project, coordinated by Unesco, is funded with $2.9 million from the Saudi Committee for the Relief of the Palestinian People. The plan is to launch a series of support centres in 12 towns across the West Bank and Gaza, which will house libraries and computer centres with internet access.

The use of the centres will be free of charge, and Unesco plans to launch a campaign to highlight the right to access higher education along with the centres.
