NERC and GCRF panellists’ top tips, AHRC ventures into Middle East, antimicrobial resistance prize

This week, two former funding panellists talk about how they apply their panel experience when writing or managing bids: geoscientist Daniel Parsons discusses the insights that led to a recent NERC Standard Grant win, while impact guru Mark Reed lists lessons he learned from working on Global Challenges Research Fund panels. We also hear about the Large Grants worth up to £100,000 from the AHRC-funded Nahrein Network and the Medical Research Foundation’s Emerging Leaders Prize for early-to-mid career researchers in antimicrobial resistance.

This week in Funding Insight

Thanks to his work on Natural Environment Research Council funding panels, Daniel Parsons knew that the prosaic project management aspects of a bid can be as important as the science. He tells Beckie Smith how he deployed that knowledge to win a Standard Grant that will allow him to research the giant Congo Canyon in west Africa. The NERC Standard Grants scheme is open to applications with a deadline of 16 July.
